ANTS

Ants.... ANts... ANTS...

Ant's are everywhere down here in Balfate. First there are the little tiny sugar type ants that are always on my counter tops. Cleaning up any scraps of food that I leave out, or getting in to any unsealed container.

Then there are the leaf cutter ants out by the laundry room. These little fellows are always marching along carrying their cut up vegetation. I was on my way to do laundry the other day and was surprised to see a path about 2 inches wide.... The ants had cut a path!!!

Finally there are the ants at school. These are the most problematic of the three. They come in hordes, thousands and thousands at a time. We can hear them walking!!! They are very fast and take over the school buildings. Causing us to retreat to another building when we run out of killing spray or bromic acid. They kill everything in their path. Including, but not limited to; helpless bugs, small animals, and even wasp nests. They HURT a ton when they bite, almost like a bee sting.

Pictures of ant lines.

Stitches

So I cut my finger really bad, like all the way to the bone. But not to much permanent damage. I don't have feeling in part of my finger (which I probably never will), but it's healing okay. Here is a video of the stitching process. :) It's not all that gross... if your scheemish about blood, then you may not want to watch. But other than that, you really can't see anything.

Back home

Well after 65 hours of traveling and taking a car, metro, two planes, two taxis, two buses, two car rides; spending 20 hours in an airport and waited 4 hours for a river to go down so that we could cross; Andrew and I arrived at Loma de Luz safe and sound.

Andrew manged to get a personal tour of the hospital by splitting his hand open on the soccer field only a few hours after arrival. School started the day after we got here... and Andrew what a great help.

Even though Andrew was only here for a week, I think that he was able to get a good taste of life here.
